Cormac McCarthy's novel, The Road, was an inspirational story of a Boy and his Father who struggled and maintained each others company to survive.
Illustrating the Boy's thoughts were simple yet thoughts that could make anyone really think and open their mind. As the novel began, the Boy had a mind of an innocent person who hadn't seen life enough to really observe and change his thoughts about things. He never had the judgment nor understood the situation. Traveling to get closer to the south gave many lessons to the Boy. The every day struggle to find food, shelter, and a safe area where no danger can be around. His Father did it all for him, fed him, took care of him with anything he had.
Throughout the novel, the Father had sacrificed so much for his son, "stay with me, the man said. stay right with me"(253). Society has failed to realize that others live in a worse situation than others and doesn't value what they have. The Boy's Father was everything to that little innocent boy, its all he had left. The fear that he had when his father was dying and the amount of tears he shed laying next to his father telling his goodbyes but that wasn't the end. There was faith and hope left when the boy found a couple who gave in and decided to care for the boy after his father's death.
The Road had a sad/happy ending, but to be truthful its reality, in which we all have to go though at some point, maybe not the same exact situation but in time where we need faith and hope to push us forward. "She said that the breath of God was his breath yet through it pass from man to man through all the time" (286). An example to open our eyes and have some sense on what people are going through.
